Design
It is a concept I recognized, appreciated, and consumed my entire life. I enjoyed beautiful art and appreciated well-crafted things. But I thought little about how it was created or why it was designed the way it was. I liked what I liked, respected the makers, and had a good eye.
Over time, however, I started thinking more about what I took for granted: how specific materials increased the utility of a product, how small differences in design can have a huge impact on user experience, and how the style of a product drives demand.
I realized that good design can make peoples’ lives better and groundbreaking design could surpass the bounds of luxury and class and become new norms that touch many rather than just the privileged few.
But like most industries, design progress is often incremental if at all. It makes sense: those in power want to stay there doing the same things they’ve done in the past.
Fundamental change is rare, but it’s the kind that makes people think, “how did we do that before X? WHY did we do that before X?”
ForresterField will seek to design and create things that disrupt the norm and change how we live. Our goal is to create fundamental design that benefits all because it cannot be constrained to one project or a specific price point.
Faced with new levels of solitude during COVID-19 I decided to push my interest in design further and challenged myself to create . . .
. . . to commercial-grade prototype level.
Whatever it becomes, this challenge has tapped a new side of me and one I hope successfully pushes my goal of creating fundamental change through design with ForresterField.
While I am not quitting my day job, this website will detail my experiences toward my challenge and the MANY distractions along the way.
Let’s see what happens.
